When the Hindu Girls School was established in 1895, it was a visionary and pioneering attempt to empower girls through quality education particularly at a time when, far from getting educated, the stepping out of girls from their homes was not encouraged, if not looked down upon. One hundred and twenty five years is a long time in history and we have evolved considerably during this period that includes a change in the name of the institution to Mahila Vidyalaya Degree College. However, in this quasquicentenary year, we are proud to say that what has remained constant is our steadfast commitment to the core vision of the founding fathers.
Lucknow has always been known for its “Ganga Jamuni Tehzeeb”. The essence of this philosophy permeates our teaching and developing the students. While teaching them their chosen subjects, we actively encourage them to be curious and use their intellect to question different theories, to be tolerant of views that may be different from theirs, to not be hesitant in engaging in discussions and yet respect different views and voices. Our objective is that when a student finally walks out of our institution, she should not only know her subjects, but also have a well-rounded personality and values. If the achievements of a large number of our past alumni provide any indication, then we can humbly say that we have succeeded, to a large extent, in meeting our objective.
We welcome our students and wish them a productive year, full of joy and good health. We assure that the College Management will always be there to provide them with the environment that will help to empower them to realise their individual goals.
